What does *Secure mean?
My online application uses a "Secure Socket Layer", otherwise known as "SSL", which is a type of 128 bit encryption. The internet does not provide built in security which is why my loan application is not emailed to me. Once your application is complete, I am notified immediately and am required to retrieve it through encryption, username and password. The SSL protocol delivers server authentication, data encryption, and message integrity. Sounds technical, doesn't it? In layman's terms, your information is kept safe and is viewable only by me.
How do you know your information is secure?
Once you click on the apply online option below,
a new window will pop up opening my online application. In the bottom right
corner of that new window, you will see a "yellow padlock". If you place your
mouse over the lock, a small window will appear with the words "Secured SSL(128
bit)". You are safe.
What if you do not see the padlock?
Your "status bar" is not visible. In order to see your status bar, click on "view" on your menu bar at the top of the window and click on "Status Bar". The padlock should appear. You can also click on the "Security Certificate" that is on the page. It is a small image that reads "thawte secure site".
